Naturopathic Doctors who have completed the Ontario Prescribing and Therapeutics Exam are authorized to therapeutically prescribe certain medications and nutrients. I have completed these requirements and am authorized to therapeutically prescribe these medications.
I am able to prescribe Bio-identical hormones known as BHRT. This includes topical and suppository forms of estrogen and natural progesterone. Supplementary hormones can be used to help ease peri-menopausal hormones fluctuations including hot flushes, mood swings and vaginal dryness. Progesterone can be prescribed when indicated to assist fertility, PMS, cycle related migraines, peri-menopausal symptoms and difficult menstrual cycles. As a Naturopathic Doctor, I am also able to recommend many other non-hormonal options that can be used to balance hormones.
Naturopathic Doctors who have completed their prescribing exam are also able to prescribe certain thyroid medications including natural desiccated thyroid (NDT/ERFA). Desiccated thyroid can be an effective medication in patients with hypothyroidism.
Completing this exam also authorizes prescribing NDs to recommend therapeutic doses of nutrients and B12 injections.
